ABERDEEN, Beach Boullevard
ABERDEEN ARTS CENTRE
MASTERS STAGE 6
In recent years, there has been a significant reduction in national art funding, with Aberdeen experiencing a substantial 40% cut. Despite its cultural potential, the city lacks a central hub to unite creative talent, prompting many young artists to seek opportunities in cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, or Dundee. This creates the risk of a "creative talent drain" in Aberdeen, diminishing its cultural vibrancy.
The proposed scheme addresses this challenge by introducing a new Art Centre for Aberdeen. This facility would also serve as a new home for Peacock Visual Arts, whose 2009 proposal for Bon Accord Terrace Gardens was never realized. Strategically located on Beach Boulevard, the site is within comfortable walking distance of the city center. The design includes dual-level access—one from Beach Boulevard and another from a newly proposed pedestrian walkway developed as part of the Master's unit plan.
The Art Centre will offer more than just a venue for artistic expression. It will provide job opportunities within the creative industry, support startup artists, and deliver high-quality art education, fostering a vibrant artistic community in Aberdeen.
